Kristie Marano featured in USA Today
Another nationally-recognized media outlet has a feature story on wrestling this month, and it comes again with women’s wrestling.
Nine-time world medalist Kristie Marano is the cover story in the Sports section of USA Today. The story centers around Marano and her 10-year-old daughter, Kayla.
Kayla’s an absolute trip. Last year in Las Vegas, Kristie, Mary Kelly, Ashley Sword, Marcie Van Dusen and a very sunburnt Craig Sesker spent the day after the World Team Trials hanging by the pool at the Riviera. Later on, lobster boy had since caught a flight and the women invited me along to the Rio where they were hitting up the seafood buffet.
Tagging along was Kayla, Kristie’s mom and we met up with Erin Tomeo and Jenny Wong to complete the crew. Immediately, I became Kayla’s personal chauffer. For the next hour or so, I had this talkative then nine-year-old getting piggyback ride after piggyback ride. Kid is an absolute trip.
She tried to take me in an eating contest with the Rio buffet, a game which Tomeo stated she won.
Their story is quite unique and it’s more press for wrestling in a nationally visible publication.
